Animal studies: Time for registration?
Human clinical trial registries, first set up in the late 1990s, are now a mandatory part of testing potential therapies in humans. Today, documenting a human study in an established online registry before it begins is considered essential to minimize hype and to prevent researchers from burying unwanted results. Now, some are arguing that similar infrastructure should be set up for animal research, particularly for the translational work used to justify testing in humans. But the technical requirements for establishing such systems are proving to be unexpectedly complex.
