Healthcare inequities remain a persistent global issue, hindering individual health outcomes and impeding progress towards global health goals. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed these disparities and systemic discrimination more starkly than ever, underscoring the urgent need for action.
In 2021, Takeda and Springer Nature launched a multi-year partnership rooted in a shared commitment to tackling these challenges, spotlight the HEPA initiative, and to position Takeda (and consequentially Springer Nature) as a global thought leader on this important topic.
The partnership focuses on four key pillars:
Developed exclusively for Takeda, Springer Nature created a multi-channel programme plus marketing packages spotlighting systemic disparities, innovative solutions, and the individuals driving progress.
Key initiatives included:

Since 2021, the partnership between Takeda and Springer Nature has helped advance health care research through spotlighting original research, and foster collaboration and mentorship for early-career scientists. They’ve also worked to amplify the voices of historically marginalised groups who are driving a worldwide transformation in health equity through a series of supplements, video and conferences; raising awareness, driving change and helping to build a more equitable future.
The impact of our partnership is leading to new collaborations and initiatives.

The impact of our partnership has reached beyond the scientific community
The RX Revolutionaries Documentary Series videos have accrued over 2 million impressions and over 5,000 views (and counting). More importantly, the videos have made a real life impact on the subjects’ lives.
In one video, Scientific American documented a Ukrainian oncologist risking his life to get children with cancer to safety in the war-torn country. His work was highlighted by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after the video aired.
In another video, we see how one indigenous epidemiologist helped save lives as COVID-19 devastated the Navajo region. Following the documentary, Dr Lee received grant funding for her organization and was asked to be on a board at L’Oréal. Dr Lee is now widely sought after for media comment.
Another video in the series follows a husband-and-wife team helping to end modern-day witch-hunting in Papua New Guinea through public health education. Leftover production funds were used to provide village streetlights.
Takeda is exceptionally pleased to partner with Springer Nature to further awareness, deepen understanding and highlight the progress that is being made in health equity globally. We’re grateful to have such a like-minded partner who brings their reach, credibility, connections and strategic thinking to address one of the most critical issues of our time.
