Key obstacle for jobseeker scientists – and how to overcome it

A major obstacle for all jobseekers in the application process, including scientists, is not knowing what it’s like to work at an organization.

From perceived skill gaps and the fear of the unknown, to unanswered questions about culture, purpose, and work-life balance, a lack of insight can impede scientists from applying for your job vacancies.

Key obstacle for jobseeker scientists

A 2022 Nature Careers survey of 3,200 PhD and Masters students revealed that less than half (48%) of respondents would prefer, ultimately, to work in academia. This was down from 56% in 2019, when Nature last surveyed PhD students.
