Their article “Detecting Cancer Using Limited Resources”, written by journalist Emily Sohn, a freelance journalist and a regular contributor to Nature, has received a 2023 AACR award — the June L. Biedler Prize for Cancer Journalism — in the category of Magazine content.

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) created the awards in 2015 to raise awareness of the critical role that the media play in educating the public about cancer and cancer research.

Nature Outlook Cancer DiagnosisThe article, “Detecting Cancer Using Limited Resources”, is part of a Nature Outlook on Cancer Diagnosis, published in Nature and on nature.com.

The Outlook highlights that, despite marked improvements in treatment, cancer is still the cause of roughly 17% of deaths globally. And one reason for this is the lack of early diagnosis — cancers caught early are more treatable. But researchers are making impressive progress — and from the Outlook we learn about some of these early diagnosis advances.
