Nature Index Special Report on Energy, publishing September 2022

Nature Index Energy special report

Global energy consumption is projected to rise by nearly 50% within the next three decades, which means expanding access to energy —without intensifying negative impacts on the planet— will continue to be a priority.

Our upcoming Nature Index special report on Energy will track research output related to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Clean and affordable energy) and highlight the countries and institutions that are leading the way in efforts to make energy more sustainable and widely available.

The report will explore how government, industry, and investors are collaborating with researchers to develop capacity and efficiency in renewable energy sources, such as hydrogen energy and hydropower, photovoltaics, biofuels, and smart-grid technologies. It will also examine the topics subject to intense research competition (such as improved battery efficiency), and how the research is being translated to market with the potential to drive major industrial advances.

Promote your energy research

Your institution can tell your energy story within the Nature Index report, which will be published online on nature.com and in print within the Nature journal.
